Dear UULM Supporter,

Thanks for standing up for UU principles of equity and compassion this fall. When we act together, it really does make a difference.

Here are some updates, invitations, and actions: from our Leadership Summit and eco-tour of the delta, to today's national call-in for healthcare reform and this weekend's 350.org. Lastly, a special thanks to all who helped the UULM Action Network "flood the Gov" with support for the human right to water - it was a truly spectacular response. "La Gotita",the water drop mascot from UUSC's friends in Peru, was impressed!

Healthcare Reform - Call Today!

Congratulations! Senator Feinstein signed onto a letter in favor of the public option! Your healthcare stories, calls, letters and visits absolutely made a difference!

Now is the second BIG moment when Congress needs to hear from you. Negotiations are underway to decide how to merge the healthcare reform bills, deciding what will be brought to the floor of the Senate and House.

Today, Tuesday, October 20th, is the “Time to Deliver  National Call in Day.  You can use the PICO National call in number 866 279-5474 to reach your Congressional Representative and Senators. Or, simply go to the Faithful America site.

UULM supports a full public option without delay, better affordability standards than are in the Senate Finance bill, and permission for states to adopt a single payer system if they so choose. You'll find talking points at: UULM Action Network

This is an historical turning point. Blog, write letters to the editor, comment on the news on-line, join in talk radio, talk to people you meet. This is the moment to engage your community in this life or death conversation. And, whatever you do, let us know so we can use your example to encourage others.

UUs in the East Bay (of SF) are invited to join UU and other clergy at a candlelight Service of Remembrance and Hope  tonight,Tuesday evening, Oct 20th.

The Governor Vetoes AB1242 - The Human Right to Water Bill

It is disappointing that the Governor vetoed AB1242.  However, the outpouring of support from UUs around the state and the growing network of faith leaders who support the human right to water as a moral cornerstone of California's water policy is very encouraging.  Over 3300 UUs sent cards and/or called the Governor. THANKS!  Your support expanded the environmental justice movement.  While the Governor vetoed our bill, he did sign legislation that will help low-income communities access funds for their water systems. Thanks to all who helped!

Here is a letter by our Executive Director Reverend Lindi Ramsden in response to the Governor's veto.

WWW.350.ORG - International Day of Climate Action

Brain child of Bill McKibben, 350.org is an international movement to stop the climate crisis.  The UU Ministry for Earth, UUA, UUSC and UULM are all collaborating with 350.org to participate in the International Day of Climate Action on October 24th.

Through education and creative witness, all around the globe people are highlighting the goal of 350, reminding world leaders who will be gathering in Copenhagen in December for the UN Climate Summit that they must take physical reality and not just political expediency into account when making decisions about our future.

Rev. Fred Small recorded a great new song for the occasion, "Three Five O"; you can find the links to the video and sheet music at the UU Ministry for Earth .

Thanks to UUs in Alameda, Costa Mesa, Davis, Grass Valley, Fresno, Los Gatos, Oakland, Pasadena, Riverside, Stockton and Walnut Creek who are planning 350 events.  To get your congregation's action on the list, please post it to the UU Ministry for Earth event registry.  To reach the larger community, find educational resources sign a statement from people of faith, or to find an action to join near you, go to www.350.org

Thanks!!
